In what could be the biggest change to happen to Viaje Cigars, the company has announced that the Viaje Collaboration 2015 will be made in conjunction with PDR Cigars. This marks a big change because this will be among the first Viaje products to use Dominican tobacco and be made in the Dominican Republic. The other products to fall into this category are the 2015 releases of the Viaje C-4 and Viaje TNT as they are moving to the PDR Cigars Factory.. Details of this announcement were published in the 3/24/15 Cigar Insider.
It was in 2014 when Viaje introduced the Collaboration series with the release of the Viaje Collaboration 2014. According to Viaje President Andre Farkas, the concept of this series is that Viaje will collaborate with another member of the cigar industry “every year or so” to develop a cigar. For 2014, Viaje teamed with Casa Fernandez and created a Nicaraguan puro blend using Aganorsa tobacco. For Viaje, there has been a close relationship with Casa Fernandez over the years. Aganorsa tobacco has been incorporated into every Viaje blend, and Casa Feranandez has worked with Viaje to make their cigars. Obviously, 2015 marks a big change.
For the Viaje Collaboration 2015, Farkas teamed up with PDR Cigar Factory owner Abe Flores to develop the blend. It features an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper, two binder leaves of Dominican tobacco, and a filler consisting of Dominican Corojo, Dominican Piloto Cubano, and Nicaraguan tobacco from Condega. This blend will not incorporate Aganorsa tobacco. In addition to being among the first Viaje products to use Dominican tobacco for the first time, this is the first Viaje blend to use Ecuadorian tobacco.
The cigars will come in one size – a 6 x 52 toro. In other Viaje first, the cigars will be released in individual coffins. According to Cigar Aficionado, 600 boxes of 20 have been made. The cigar is expected to be launched at the 2015 IPCPR Trade Show.
Viaje now is currently partnering with four factories in four different countries to produce his products: Honduras (Raices Cubanas), Nicaragua (TABSA), United States (Casa Fernandez Miami), and the Dominican Republic (PDR Cigars).
