Por Larranaga, a brand that originated in Cuba, but has been mostly dormant for some time in the U.S. market is making a return. Today Altadis USA officially announced it is bringing the brand band back as a regular offering. The new Por Larranaga is expected to hit shelves at the end of May, 2016.
Altadis USA holds the U.S. marketing rights for Por Larranaga. While the brand had been dormant for some time, it was in 2014 when the company released the Por Larranaga TAA En Cedro – a limited production cigar for the Tobacconists Association of America (TAA) as a part of the 2015 TAA Exclusive Series. Today’s announcement introduces a new cigar blend and will make the Por Larranaga brand a regular offering.
“Por Larranaga, born in Cuba in 1834, is one of the oldest heritage brands in our portfolio,” says Altadis U.S.A. in a press release. “Known for its smooth, rich and sweet tobacco leaves, it has a reputation for consistency and high quality. We treat all our brands with the utmost respect and class. The rebirth of Por Larranaga is exciting for all of us here because we are about to share with aficionados a one-of-a- kind cigar that expresses both the heritage and the history of Por Larranaga.”
The cigar will be available in three sizes. It features a Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over Dominican binder and filler. The cigars also feature new packaging and banding. While Altadis USA has revamped packaging on brands such as Romeo, Saint Luis Rey SLR Gen² , and H. Upmann Legacy, the Por Larranaga retains a classic style.
“The elegant deep teal cigar box and Por Larranaga’s distinctive crest help make this brand jump right out of the box,”Altadis U.S.A. says. “Magnificently done, this icon is here to stay.”
