At the 2019 IPCPR Trade Show, Micallef Cigars unveiled a third size in its Leyenda line with the Micallef Leyenda Special Edition. It’s a limited edition 6 x 54 Toro.
The Leyenda line is produced in Nicaragua by the Gomez-Sanchez family in Nicaragua. It was a blend originated by Don Pedro F. Gomez and made by his grandsons Edel and Joel. It was originally released in two tapered figurado vitolas (Leyenda 1 and Leyenda 2) that were made by hand without cigar molds. For both of these sizes, each cigar is packaged in a unique figurado-shaped open coffin.
The Leyenda Special Edition is a traditional hand-rolled Toro without the coffin packaging. It features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Honduran fillers. It is being limited to 500 10-count boxes. Pricing is set at $28.00 per cigar.
The box features a portrait of company founder Al Micallef done by Kim Jackson of K-Jack Art. Jackson was commissioned to design an 18 by 24 portrait of Micallef that was made entirely of cigar bands. A print of the portrait is on the inside of each box.
