Review: Jas Sum Kral Tyrannical Buc Maduro Dobles (9/15/19)
Appearances on Countdown (By Year/Brand): 1 (2019)
Coming in at #5 is the Jas Sum Kral Tyrannical Buc Maduro Dobles. In 2019, Jas Sum Kral (JSK) Cigars announced a pair of blends known as Tyrannical Buc. The two blends are available in both Connecticut Shade and Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro and are intended to be powerhouse blends in the portfolio. Just prior to the 2019 IPCPR Trade Show, the Maduro version was the first of the two blends to reach market with the Connecticut Shade following later in the year.
In addition to the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, the Tyrannical Buc Maduro utilizes Nicaraguan tobaccos for the binder and filler. There is also some Pennsylvania tobacco incorporated into the blend. The Dobles size falls between a Toro and Double Corona coming in at 6 1/2 x 50. Production is being handled at a small factory in Estelí, Nicaragua known as Tabacalera de Aragon.
For Jas Sum Kral, it marks the company’s first appearance on a Cigar Coop Countdown. It also is Tabacalera de Aragon’s first appearance on the Countdown. Jas Sum Kral is only the second company in 2019 to land on the Countdown for the first time.
The Tyrannical Buc Maduro delivers a mix of mocha (a combination of coffee and chocolate flavors), earth, and red pepper. True to its billing, this cigar is a powerhouse. It starts out as medium to full in strength and body, but doesn’t take long to get into full strength and body by the second third where it stays for the duration of the smoke.
It’s a simple flavor profile for Tyrannical Buc, but is the sum of the parts that matters. This cigar not only comes up big and bold in strength and body, but also flavor. It was an easy choice for landing the #5 Cigar of the Year for 2019.
