Cigar News: Selected Tobacco to Launch Alfonso Gran Selección at PCA 2023

The Alfonso Gran Selección, first previewed at the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, will be made available for retailers at the 2023 PCA Trade Show. This follows up the Alfonso Añejo which was launched last year. The Alfonso Gran Selección will make its debut at the 2023 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show.

Selected Tobacco is known for its meticulous aging process once the cigars have been rolled. The company ages its cigars in cedar-lined rooms while raising and lowering humidity to allow the cigars to cleanse themselves over time. For Alfonso Gran Selección this process takes five years and their final aging is done in rooms lined with French Oak. The use of French Oak in the aging process was also used for the Alfonso Añejo and Byron 1850 lines.

The Alfonso Gran Selección features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Peruvian binder and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The company says the Alfonso Gran Selección will have a “darker profile” over the Alfonso Añejo. The Alfonso Gran Selección will be available in five sizes; Exclusivos (6 x 54 Torpedo, SRP $47.00/cigar), Preciosos (7 1/2 x 40, SRP $42.00/cigar), Estelares (5 1/2 x 54, SRP $42.00/cigar), Enormes (6 1/2 x 60, SRP $50.00/cigar), and Grandiosos (8 x 50, SRP $50.00/cigar). Each size comes in 25-count dress boxes and production is initially listed at 5,000 cigars per size. Production comes from Tabacos de Costa Rica in Costa Rica.

“Our experimentation with French Oak aging has lead to amazing cigars,” said Nelson Alfonso, Owner of Selected Tobacco in a press release. “The Alfonso Gran Selección is the next great example of our dedication to patience and exploration.”

The Alfonso Gran Selección is scheduled to ship this Fall. Distribution for Selected Tobacco is handled by United Cigars.

The 2023 PCA Trade Show opens July 7, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
