Crowned Heads Coroneta

At the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Crowned Heads will introduce a new regular production brand, Coroneta. The Coroneta brand consists of two blends, a Habano and a Maduro, each produced at a different factory. The Coroneta Habano comes from Nicaraguan American Cigars, S.A. (NACSA) in Esteli, Nicaragua, under the supervision of Raul Disla. Meanwhile, the Coroneta Maduro comes from Casa Carrillo in Santiago, Dominican Republic, under Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s and his team’s supervision.

“The concept of simultaneously introducing one brand in two expressions from two different houses is something entirely first-time for us,” commented Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber in a press release. “The Habano version from NACSA was actually final and production ready back in the Spring of 2022, but we decided to hold it back. Ultimately, we felt so strongly about the Coroneta brand that we tapped the ‘Godfather of Boutique Cigars,’ aka Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, to partner with us on developing the maduro version. I think the Coroneta brand achieves what we excel at, which is, seamlessly blending tradition and history with premium modernity.”

To tie in with Crowned Heads, the name Coroneta is derived from “coronet,” which refers to a simple crown. Coroneta Habano features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua’s Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa regions. Meanwhile, Coroneta Maduro features a Mexican San Andres wrapper over an Ecuadorian Connecticut binder and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua, Pennsylvania, and the Dominican Republic.

Both the Habano and Maduro blends will share the vitola names and sizes: Earl (5 x 52), Duke (5 1/2 x 54), and Baron (6 x 56). The names of the vitolas are derived from the various crowns of British heraldry worn by the lower ranks of nobility in the 16th century. The Coroneta bands are adorned with the same strawberry leaf featured on those crowns.

The 2024 Premium Cigar Association Trade Show opens on March 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Coroneta is shipping to retailers in April.
