This year, the Prime Time Jukebox Battle of the Bands Competition goes to the 1970s. Our 2024 tournament focuses on albums from the 1970s. Two-time defending champion Hector Alfonso of Espinosa Cigars and John McTavish of Developing Palates are back for the fun.
This year, Hector, John, Dave, and Coop held a draft on Prime Time Jukebox Episode 129. Each picked eight albums, which were then seeded into brackets determined by each participant.
You will determine the winner of this battle. Starting Friday, May 31, 2024, we will have two matchups, each lasting two days. You can vote for which artist you think should move on to the next round. We will review each round on X/Twitter until there is a winner from Hector, Dave, John, and Coop’s bracket. The final four will square off, and the winner will be determined. The winning album will give someone bragging rights – and be reserved for an Album Archaeology show.
The contest will be held on:

What Can I Win?
We will be offering incentives to vote. This year, the prize pool has been amped up. Three winners will be chosen this year. Prizes offered include the following:
- H. Upmann Ashtray
- H. Upmann Domino Set OR Cigar Coop Polo Shirt (limited sizes available, color selection not guaranteed)
In addition, if we get 600 total votes in the tournament, we will also draw winners for three $50.00 Vinyl Me Please Gift Cards (you heard us talk about VMP on Jukebox!!!).
We apologize, but the physical prizes are U.S. only. The gift cards are U.S. and international as long as local laws permit us to use them. No substitutions are allowed.
How do I get a Contest Entry?
To enter, you must retweet the matchup with the hashtag #PrimeTimeJukebox. You can enter one time per matchup. The idea here is by retweeting, we will expand our reach and get to 600 votes. This is less than 20 votes per matchup, which is well within reach. The gift cards will not be drawn if we don’t get to 600 votes. This is an all-or-nothing offer here, so again, we encourage retweeting when you vote if you want to win. If the 600 votes are not reached, we will still draw for the two physical prizes but will not offer the gift cards.
Note: For any suspected bots, we reserve the right to invalidate the matchup. The decision is final by Prime Time Jukebox and is not open to appeal.
