Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition

Today, we review the Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition. The Anarchy started as a single-store release to South Florida retailer Smoke Inn. It would prove to be one of the most successful single-store releases in the history of the cigar industry. Due to the success of the Tatuaje Anarchy, a decision was made to bring the cigar back in limited quantities to Smoke Inn and six others. The additional six required the purchase of an NFT (Non-Fungible Token). The NFTs were offered through an auction, and each winner of the auction received a special collectible package and, most importantly, the right to purchase the cigars. In most of these cases, those acquiring the NFT were retailers and reserved the right to sell the cigars.

The first Tatuaje Anarchy debuted late in 2010 as the first installment of Smoke Inn’s Microblend series. The Microblend is a series of shop exclusives where Smoke Inn collaborates with leading manufacturers. The series was so successful that it got coverage from Playboy magazine. It spawned a series of follow-up Microblends, including the Tatuaje Apocalypse, Tatuaje Kaos, and the Tatuaje Kaos Pale Horse. The success of the Tatuaje Anarchy led Smoke Inn to make it the first Microblend to return in 2015.

The average bid price for the auctions was $83,910.17, with one NFT going for $100,000.00. Each NFT package was created in collaboration with products from S.T. Dupont and Quality Importers. Each package had a unique set of packaging for that NFT holder.

  • Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition humidor containing 60 Anarchy NFT Edition Cigars with 15 Tatuaje Anarchy Pale Horse
  • Ligne 2 Lighter by S.T. Dupont of Paris
  • Xikar Perfect Xi1 Cutter
  • Quality Importers Crystal Ashtray
  • 24″x 36″ framed print
  • The rights to purchase 15 15-count boxes of the Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition once per quarter

The Anarchy NFT Cigar has a unique holographic band that distinguishes it from the 2010 and 2015 releases. Each cigar is individually housed in a cardboard box.

Pricing for the Anarchy NFT Edition was set by the NFT holders who chose to sell them. The price point that we have seen is $100.00 per cigar. It is worth noting that the original Tatuaje Anarchy sold for $9.99 per cigar. The reasoning for the price increase can be attributed to the demand for the cigar and the cost of acquiring the NFT.

This Agile Cigar Review will focus on the Tatuaje NFT Cigar.

PERFORMANCE

The Anarchy NFT Edition opened up with notes of earth, black coffee, cedar, black pepper, dark chocolate, and natural tobacco. Early on, the coffee and natural tobacco notes became primary. Simultaneously, there was a layer of cedar on the retro-hale. As the Anarchy NFT Edition moved through the first third, notes of dark chocolate joined the coffee and natural tobacco in the forefront. The second third saw an increase in both the cedar and pepper notes. The cedar increased in intensity, replacing the dark chocolate by the latter part of the second third. The last third saw the black coffee, natural tobacco, and cedar primary. The pepper was the most prominent secondary note. There still were notes of dark chocolate and earth present. The Anarchy NFT Edition finished with a soft, cool nub.

The Anarchy NFT started out with medium-bodied flavors and medium strength. By the second half, both attributes progressed from medium to full. Strength and body balanced each other nicely, with neither attribute overshadowing the other.

The burn required frequent touch-ups to maintain a straight burn path and a straight burn line. The draw was ideal as it had a touch of resistance—which is something I like.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

Before getting into the final evaluation of the Anarchy NFT Edition, I want to make two points that did not affect the final score. First, the Anarchy NFT Edition bands looked fantastic. As for the individual cardboard boxes, while I liked the design, I think a cigar like this could have really used a coffin.

The Anarchy NFT Edition keeps to the legacy of the Anarchy blend. This was a fantastic cigar. Coming in at 90 points, it earns a Cigar Coop Standard of Excellence designation. While the score is lower than previous iterations, this is due to the more stringent scoring Cigar Coop uses in 2024. If you get this cigar, you will get an excellent cigar. The Anarchy NFT’s $100.00 price point is significantly higher than when it was initially offered as a Microblend. This is essentially the same quality cigar as over a decade ago. Based on the price, I cannot go higher than a Try a Sample here.
