Domain Neutron Review

Domain Neutron Toro – Cigar Review

Today, we review the Neutron Toro from Domain Cigars. Domain Cigars is a new company that launched in March 2024. The company is part of a partnership between Esteban Disla and Daniel Lance. Disla is widely known for his tenure at the Nica Sueno factory, while Lance is an entrepreneur from the cigar business’s retail side. While the two own Domain Cigars, they are also partners in their own Nicaraguan factory, Tabacalera Familia Disla S.A. Recently, the factory has established a “residency,” bringing in two industry veterans to join the team: Kevin Baxter (formerly of Asylum) and Disla’s brother Raul (formerly of NACSA).

Regarding market launch, Domain Cigars has introduced two lines: Neutron and Negentropy. Neutron is a San Andres-wrapped cigar. At the time Neutron was announced, the company described it as follows:

Neutrons possess the unique capability to orchestrate the charge of their surroundings. “Neutron,” characterized by its neutral charge and medium intensity, is a masterpiece. This enduring flavor profile reaches its full maturity during the second fermentation, achieved through meticulous aging.

Without further ado, let’s review the Domain Neutron Toro and see what this cigar offers.

Appearance (*)

The San Andres wrapper of the Neutron Toro was dark chocolate brown. Its surface had a slight sheen of oil and a slight amount of toothiness. The wrapper’s surface was slightly bumpy. There were some visible veins, and any visible wrapper seams were minimal.

PERFORMANCE

Pre-Light Draw (*)

Before lighting up the Neutron Toro, a straight cut was used to remove the cap. Once the cap was removed, it was time to commence with the pre-light draw. The cold draw delivered rich notes of cocoa and some cedar notes. This wasn’t an overly complicated pre-light draw, but it did deliver an excellent experience. At this point, it was time to light up the Neutron Toro and see what the smoking phase would have in store.

Tasting Notes

The Neutron Toro opened with notes of cocoa, earth, baking spice, and chalk. The cocoa notes quickly moved into the forefront while the baking spice, earth, and chalk notes settled in the background. Some mixed pepper notes emerged in the background as the cigar moved through the first third. The chalk notes surprisingly helped balance the flavor profile nicely. Meanwhile, the retro-hale delivered a mix of sweet cocoa and pepper.

The second third of the Neutron Toro opened with the cocoa notes still grounded in the forefront. Some wood notes also entered the equation in the background. By the midway point, the wood notes morphed into a cedar note. The cedar joined the earth, baking spice, chalk, and pepper notes. Once in the second half, the cedar and pepper notes increased in intensity.

By the final third, the cedar notes made their way into the forefront. The cocoa receded, joining the earth, baking spice, chalk, and pepper notes. This is how the Neutron Toro came to a close. The resulting nub was soft to the touch and cool in temperature.

Burn

The burn of the Neutron Toro started out straight, but in the second third, there was a slight amount of meandering that required several touch-ups—more than I preferred. The resulting ash was near white in color, skewed toward the firmer side. As for the burn rate and burn temperature, both maintained ideal levels.

Draw

The draw to the Neutron Toro had a touch of resistance to it. This is something that I like in a draw. At the same time, this was a low-maintenance cigar from which to derive flavor. This was also a cigar that produced ample amounts of smoke.

Strength and Body

The Neutron Toro started out with medium strength and medium-bodied flavors. As the smoking experience progressed, both attributes increased in intensity, but in the end, strength and body remained in the medium range of their respective spectrums. In terms of strength versus body, both attributes balanced each other, with neither overshadowing the other.

Banding and Packaging Notes (*)

The Neutron’s banding and packaging have a contemporary look. The black and copper logo are Neutron’s banding and packaging logo, which is quite striking and stands out nicely against the cigar and box. One interesting note is that there are actually two bands on the cigar, with one layered over the other.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

The Neutron Toro is an awe-inspiring debut by Domain Cigars. In a year where there haven’t been a lot of good San Andres-wrapped-related releases, the Neutron Toro really stands out. In the past couple of years, there haven’t been a lot of cigars that have scored past 90 points on Cigar Coop, but this cigar is one of them, coming in with a score of 91 points. This is a cigar I would not hesitate to recommend to any cigar enthusiast. With a fantastic price point of $11.49, this cigar is one you should consider a box purchase for. The 91 point score also exceeds the threshold for Cigar Coop Standard of Excellence.
