Today, we review the Quesada 50th Anniversary in the Perfecto size. This cigar was released to mark 50 years since Quesada opened its first cigar factory, Manufactura de Tabacos S.A. (MATASA), in 1974.  Today, Quesada’s factory operates under the name Tabacos de Exportación, commonly known as TABADEX. It is TABADEX that crafted the special 50th Anniversary line. This collection is available in two sizes: Toro Prensado and Perfecto. Today, we will focus on the Perfecto size.

Agile Cigar Review

The Quesada 50th Anniversary features a Habano Ecuador wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Peru. The Perfecto size measures 6 x 60. It comes in ten-count boxes. While its sibling, the Toro Prensado, had 2,200 boxes available, the Perfecto was much more limited. Only 200 boxes were made.

  • Fillers: Dominican Republic, Peru
  • Country of origin: Dominican Republic
  • Factory: TABADEX
  • Perfecto: 6 x 60

PERFORMANCE

The 50th Anniversary Perfecto opened up with bread and citrus notes. This gave the profile a “sweet bread” note early on. The retro-hale produced layers of wood and black pepper. The black pepper surfaced in the background. As the Perfecto moved into the second third, the bread notes remained primary. The citrus joined the black pepper in the background. In addition, notes of natural tobacco and nut also surfaced. The bread notes remained primary for the duration of the smoking experience. By the final third, the pepper notes increased slightly. In addition, the citrus, natural tobacco, and nut continued to round things out.

The 50th Anniversary Perfecto started with medium-bodied notes. By the second half, the flavors progressed into medium to full territory. Meanwhile, the flavors were countered by medium strength.

As for the burn, the 50th Anniversary Perfecto maintained a straight burn path and straight burn line, requiring only a minimal amount of touchups. As for the draw, it was open. Normally, I prefer a little more resistance on my draw, but in the case of the 50th Anniversary Perfecto, it had no adverse effects.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

When comparing the Toro Prensado and the Perfecto, I would definitely recommend the Perfecto size over the Toro Prensado. I found that the Perfecto offers a more consistent cigar experience, and I especially appreciated the enhanced flavors it provides. However, I do think the price of $19.00 is a bit steep. While the Perfecto scoring 88 points is decent, the price tag makes it hard to recommend as an outright purchase. Ideally, I’d suggest trying a sample before making any decisions. Since this size was quite limited, you might need to trust your instincts when deciding whether to buy one.
