We as Tobacco enthusiasts must be heard. If we sit back and be silent, the Pleasure Police will win and we will lose our legal right to enjoy a legal product.
The University of Oregon’s Department of Student Affairs received an $800,000 to promote something called “the Healthy Campus Initiative”. Some of this money is planned to go and implement a smoke-free campus. This not only affects smoking but physical activity and healthy eating practices as well.
The last I checked, a good number of the Student Body is over the age of 18. The last I checked, a good number of the student body can vote. The last I checked, a good number of the student body can be drafted for military service. In other words, they have reached the age to make life decisions. Do they really need Nanny State politics rammed down their throats on campus?
Bravo to the students at the University of Oregon who did not take this nanny-state edict sitting down. They are protesting – and being heard! While whenever there is a Pleasure Police Yellow Alert, it is never good news, I think in this case the students making their voices heard should be commended. Remember, if it can happen at the University of Oregon, it can and will happen at other colleges.
