In 2009, Oettenger Davidoff acquired Cusano Cigars, a company owned by Mike and Joe Chiusano. This acquisition gave Davidoff a brand focused around value-based cigars. Since this acquisition, this has been one of the quietest brands in the Davidoff portfolio. Today the company has announced its most significant release since that acquisition with the launch of the Cusano Dominican line. Plans are for two blends, the Cusano Dominican Connecticut and Cusano Dominican Maduro to debut over the next several weeks.
Details around the Cusano Dominican Connecticut were announced today. The cigar features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and binder, as well as a blend of Dominican long filler tobacco. Details of the Cusano Dominican Maduro were not disclosed at this time.
The announcement of the Cusano Dominican also introduces a new packaging design to the Cusano brand.
Plans are for the Cusano Dominican Connecticut to debut for Europe in February, 2016. Both the Cusano Dominican Connecticut and Cusano Dominican Maduro will simultaneously debut in the U.S. market in April, 2016.
In a press release announcing the Cusano Dominican line, Charles Awad, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Innovation at Oettinger Davidoff AG, said: “As part of Oettinger Davidoff’s mission to meet key aficionados’ needs through a diverse portfolio of cigar offerings, and to be the indispensable business partner of retailers, the new Cusano Dominican Connecticut range will delight aficionados seeking to enjoy fine-quality cigars at great value.”
Over the past two weeks, Davidoff has focused activity around some of its less active brands. In addition to the announcement of the Cusano Dominican Connecticut, last week the Zino brand announced “The Remake” project.
