The distribution company co-owned by the Fuente and Newman families is getting a new name. Today came word that a new name will be used by that distribution company – Arturo Fuente Cigar Company.
For many years one of the strongest partnerships in the cigar business has been the one between the Newman and Fuente families. In particular, the Fuentes have blended many cigars in the Newman portfolio while the two have also partnered for many years in a joint distribution company. That company has handled the distribution for both Fuente and J.C. Newman products.
The partnership between the two families dates back to 1990 when the two created FANCO International. In 1995 the name was changed to Fuente & Newman where it has kept that name until now where it has been changed to Arturo Fuentes Cigar Company.
“When my grandfather founded our family business in 1912, he called it the Arturo Fuente Cigar Company,” said Carlos Fuente Jr., president and owner of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in a press release. “I am very pleased that Arturo Fuente cigars will once again be sold in the United States by a company bearing our original name.”
“I am very proud of the longstanding partnership between both our century-old cigar families,” said Eric Newman, president of J.C. Newman Cigar Company. “We look forward to strengthening the Arturo Fuente brand in the United States and continuing to provide superior service and support to premium cigar retailers across the country.”
While the name is changing, the operations and structure of Arturo Fuente Cigar Company are not expected to change.
