This month Viaje Cigars will release the 2018 installment of its Juntos series. The name “Juntos” stands for “together” and is a line that Viaje devotes to collaborations with others in the cigar industry. For the 2018 edition of Juntos, Viaje will partner with E.P. Carrillo and Tabacalera La Alianza.
This is the second release Viaje has done from Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr’s Tabacalera La Alianza. In 2017, Viaje released its first cigar out of Tabacalera La Alianza, the Viaje Piña. While Viaje owner Andre Farkas and Perez-Carrillo Jr were working on the Viaje Piña, the two came up with a second blend. While a blend was selected for the Piña, a decision was made to use the second blend for a Juntos release.
The Viaje-EPC Juntos features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and all Nicaraguan filler. The cigars are released in two sizes – a 6 x 54 Torpedo and 6 x 54 Toro – the same sizes used on the Viaje Juntos 2016 edition done with Quesada. Like the 2016 edition, the Viaje-EPC Juntos uses the same two interlocking tin packaging. One tin contains 10 toros while the other tin contains ten torpedos.
The Juntos series was originally launched in 2014 as the Viaje Collaboration line. While the names are different, the concept is similar – Viaje is partnering in a collaborative fashion on a brand in the cigar industry. Each of the brands Viaje has worked with on this project happen to have their own factory. The Viaje Collaboration 2014 was a project done with Casa Fernandez, who owns the TABSA factory. The Viaje Collaboration 2015 was done with PDR Cigars. In 2016, the company was informed of a potential trademark issue and the series was rebranded as the Viaje Juntos. Later that year, the Viaje Juntos 2016 edition was released as a project with Quesada Cigars.
