GTO Dominican Cigars is a company owned by Dr. Oscar Rodriguez. In addition to being a cigar maker, Rodriguez is also a doctor. He has roots in the Dominican Republic where his family has been cultivating and growing tobacco for six decades. GTO Dominican Cigars is a true boutique vertically integrated operation. The company sources its own tobacco as well as produces its own cigars. For a decade, the brand has built a loyal and steady following – particularly in the Southeast. This summer saw Rodriguez introduce two new projects into his portfolio.

First up is a new three-blend line known as 33 Oaks. This is a line dedicated to the many oak trees that grow in the city of Atlanta. On Atlanta’s Beltline, there is a collection of stainless steel sculptures representing the 33 species of oaks native to Georgia.

33 Oaks is available in Connecticut, Corojo, and Maduro wrapper options. Each cigar features proprietary tobaccos from the GTO farms. These are cigars where the tobaccos have undergone a ten-year aging process and a two-year bourbon oak barrel aging process. It comes in two sizes: Figurado (6 1/2 x 54) and Corona Gorda (6 x 47) – each presented in 24-count boxes.

In addition, Dr. Rodriguez is releasing a full-strength 8 x 60 Maduro known PaTaTu Maduro  PATATU means stroke or pass out in Spanish. Dr. Rodriguez says this is what happened to his cousins who smoked them without asking how strong they were, hence the name. It features a Maduro wrapper over Dominican binder and filler from the GTO tobacco farms as well as 10-year-aged ligero.
