Perdomo 10th Anniversary Sun Grown

Today, we revisit the Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Sun Grown in the Epicure size. In 2020, Perdomo Cigars would make a bold move in its portfolio. The company replaced the Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne Noir and Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne Sun Grown with two new cigars. These cigars would be the Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Maduro and Sun-Grown offerings. The company would hit the jackpot with these, as both the new additions would be a huge success. For now, we will focus on the 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Sun Grown Epicure, a 6 x 54 Toro-sized offering. This cigar landed on our 2021 Cigar of the Year Countdown.

PERFORMANCE

The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Sun Grown Epicure opened earth, nut, natural tobacco, baker’s spice, wood, and pepper. Early on, the earth and wood notes became the primary notes, with the nut, natural tobacco, baker’s spice, and pepper settling into the background. was a nice sweetness to the natural tobacco notes, while the pepper could be detected at the back of the throat. On the retro-hale was a combination of black pepper, wood, and natural tobacco. The early part of the second third saw the natural tobacco join the earth and wood in the forefront, only to return to the background by the final third. The final third would see the pepper close in on the earth and wood notes. In the background, the natural tobacco and baker’s spice delivered sweetness while the nut notes dissipated.

The 10th Anniversary Sun Grown Epicure delivered a medium strength, medium to full-bodied experience. There seemed to be a little more body on the notes this time than when previously assessed. The burn required more touch-ups than I prefer, and the draw was slightly more open. Ultimately, the burn and draw didn’t produce any adverse effects.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Sun Grown Epicure cigars used for this assessment had about 90 days of age in my personal humidor, and the experience really shone. With the exception of a little more body and richness on the flavors, the Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Sun Grown Epicure is a remarkably consistent cigar in terms of overall experience. This is a wonderful quality to have in a core-line offering, but what is even better is that the overall experience is positive. The more I smoke the 10th Anniversary Sun Grown Epicure, the more I like it. The flavors totally shined here. This is a cigar I would steer toward an experienced cigar enthusiast, but would not discourage a novice from trying. As for myself, this is a cigar that garners box-worthy consideration. Coming in at 91 points, this cigar exceeds the Cigar Coop Standard of Excellence threshold.
