After being part of the Sutliff Distribution booth for the past three years, Matilde Cigars was in its own booth for the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. The booth highlighted several bold colors that have become a staple of Matilde’s packaging. Owner Enrique Seijas has certainly been active, releasing a new core line (Serena Maduro) and the small batch Limited Exposure series. This year, Seijas gave attendees a preview of another limited production small batch series, the Matilde Special Edition, and introduced a new fresh pack sampler.
Matilde Special Edition is the first of a series of Special Edition releases that will showcase aged tobaccos. Produced at Tabacalera La Isla, the first release is a blend that features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and a binder from the Jalapa region of Nicaragua. The fillers consist of tobaccos from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Peru. The use of the Peruvian tobacco is noteworthy in that this is the first Matilde cigar to use tobacco from this region. Brand owner Enrique Seijas says the use of the tobacco pays homage to his father, José Seijas, who was a big fan of this tobacco. The legendary Seijas Signature line makes use of Peruvian tobacco. The cigar is a 6 x 50 Toro and comes in at a $13.25 price point.
Matilde’s new fresh pack sampler will contain each of Matilde’s five core line blends:
- Matilde Renacer
- Matilde Oscura
- Matilde Quadrata
- Matilde Serena
- Matilde Serena Maduro
