Once again, General Cigar is teaming up with Napa Valley’s Flint Knoll Winery to release the Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll No 3. Like the original Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll release, the cigar contains a binder leaf aged in Flint Knoll French Oak wine barrels used for its Royal Appointment Cabernet Sauvignon. According to General Cigar, this will be the final Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll release.
Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll No 3. is similar to the previous two releases in its blend. The blend includes an Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut Shade wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and a filler blend of Brazilian, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The Connecticut Broadleaf binder tobacco is aged in the Flint Knoll French Oak wine barrels. The big difference from the previous releases is the wine barrels used for aging were for a different vintage. In this case, the French Oak barrels used for the No 3 release were Flint Knoll’s 2021 Royal Appointment Cabernet Sauvignon.
The No 1 release was aged in 2018 vintage Royal Appointment barrels, and the No 2 releases were aged in 2019 barrels.
In a press release, Steve Abbot, Director of Marketing, said, “Macanudo’s Estate Reserve offerings are the result of a shared appreciation for two similar crafts. For Estate Reserve No 3, we were lucky to have great tobaccos and wine come together to create an exceptional cigar.”
Aaron Michaelis, founder of Flint Knoll Winery, said, “2021 was a special year for Napa Valley wine. A lack of rain and lower temperatures brought us an ultra-rare vintage, and you can taste the subtleties in the tobaccos aged in the same barrels.”
Differing from the previous two releases, the No 3 will only be offered in a 7 x 52 Churchill size. For the No 1 and No 2 releases, a Toro size was also offered. Produced in the Dominican Republic, the No 3 comes in ten-count boxes. Pricing is set at $19.99 SRP/cigar.
