The Details
The 2024 #28 Cigar of the Year is the Plasencia Ehtëfal. The release of the Plasencia Ehtëfal was meant to coincide with the 2022 FIFA World Cup that was taking place in Qatar in November 2022. Plasencia Cigars clarified that this was not a commemorative cigar for the World Cup but more of a celebratory cigar (Ehtëfal is the Arabic word for celebration). This limited edition release hit the market in 2022, and it was something we assessed late last year, so it falls in the qualification window on the Cigar Coop Countdown for 2024. Coming in at $65.00, it was Plasencia’s most expensive cigar to date.
The Plasencia Ehtëfal features a sun-grown wrapper from the Jalapa region of Nicaragua. The binder and fillers are a selection of ten-year-aged tobaccos from the Plasencia farms in Honduras and Nicaragua. Production for the Plasencia Ehtëfal comes from the Plasencia factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Toro measures 6 x 52.
The Ehtëfal had a complex flavor profile, delivering notes of coffee, chocolate, earth, baker’s spice, cedar, fruit, and pepper. The smoking experience delivered medium-bodied notes countered with medium strength.
This is the fourth time that Plasencia Cigars has landed on the Cigar Coop Countdown. All of these Countdown appearances occurred in the past five years.

Once again, coop is picking cigars that are beyond our reach WTF

I see your point, but that is more of a halfwheel thing – teasing. Coop did only rank this at 28.

Thank you for the feedback. I can’t speak for any other website how they do it, but price/value is not factored into our end of the year rankings. Never has been, never will be. We don’t exclude an expensive cigar, and we don’t exclude an inexpensive cigar. All we can tell you is how things stacked up based on the reviews/re-smokes over the past 12 months.
