Joya Cinco de Cinco

Today, we review the Joya de Nicaragua’s Cinco de Cinco in the Robusto Gordo size. The Cinco de Cinco is a line that was first introduced in 2023. It’s a line that commemorates the 55th anniversary of the company. As the oldest factory in Nicaragua, Joya de Nicaragua connects its history with that of its home country. Over the years, Joya de Nicaragua’s factory has had many visitors who have had an opportunity to create their own blends. Joya de Nicaragua derived the final blend for Cinco de Cinco based on many of the unique blends created by visitors to the factory, thus paying homage to its history again.

PERFORMANCE

The Cinco de Cinco Robusto Gordo opened up with chocolate, mineral, fruit, earth, and mixed pepper spice. Early on, the chocolate and fruit notes became prominent on the tongue, and also on the retro-hale. The background mineral, pepper, and earth notes increased during the second third. The pepper notes made their way into the retro-hale. By the second half, the mineral notes joined the fruit notes in the forefront as the chocolate receded into the background. The final third saw the pepper notes join the mineral and fruit notes, with the chocolate and earth rounding things out from the background. The Cinco de Cinco Robusto Gordo finished with a soft, cool nub.

Overall, the strength of the Cinco de Cinco Robusto Gordo stayed in the medium range. The flavors started out medium-bodied but progressed to medium to full in the second half. The burn was excellent, requiring minimal touch-ups. The draw also had a touch of resistance, which was ideal.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

While both the Cinco de Cinco Toro and Robusto Gordo sizes scored a 90 and achieved a Standard of Excellence designation, I still give a slight edge to the Robusto Gordo. The flavors just clicked a little better on the Robusto Gordo, and I’ve found a better overall and consistent cigar experience with this size. In the end, at $18.00, the Cinco de Cinco Robusto Gordo is a bit pricier, but it’s still a cigar I’d recommend to any enthusiast. Indeed, it’s a cigar I would buy and smoke again.
