Today, we look at the performance rankings of cigars scored on Cigar Coop by Company for 2024. The Performance Rankings were introduced in 2012 as a statistical analysis based on the average numerical score of all cigars assessed on Cigar Coop. They are meant to be a barometer of how well companies scored overall for the year.
In 2024, the average score for the entire set of 168 cigars was 88.45. (Statistically, this was down 0.14 points from 2023, when the average was 88.59.) This is not an award but an analysis of scoring. This is not necessarily an award but a look at how the scoring went and what we can learn from it.
We used the following criteria to implement this:
- The cigar must have its score published between November 1, 2023, and October 31, 2024.
- Rankings are done by companies, not brands.
- All cigars scored were eligible regardless of release date. The goal is to see how a company performed during the Cigar Coop Cigar Year. At the same time, the emphasis of the review set is on new cigars.
- A company must have five scored cigars to be eligible. Since we focus on new releases, some companies land more cigars than others.
- If companies are tied for the average score, the ranking is determined by which had more cigars assessed. If there are the same number of companies, the tie stands.

The following are the 15 companies that were included in the Performance Rankings. This is based on having five cigars reviewed from that company.

Assessing the Results
- A total of 67 companies had cigars assessed on Cigar Coop during the assessment period (In 2023, the total was 64).
- For the first time, the top-ranked company did not have a minimum score of 90.
- JRE Tobacco Co. has made history by becoming the first company that primarily produces its cigars in Honduras to officially top the performance rankings. While JRE Tobacco Co. had the highest average in 2020, it lost in a tiebreaker because it had fewer cigars evaluated.
- This year, 15 companies met the minimum threshold of five cigars reviewed. In 2023, only nine companies met the minimum threshold of four cigars. A goal of Cigar Coop was to go wider with the companies we assess.
- The 15 companies totaled 97 reviews, representing 57.7 % of the reviews from 2024.
