Crowned Heads has announced the 2025 edition of its annual Las Calaveras Series, the Las Calaveras Edicion Limitada (EL) 2025. This year, for the first time since 2018 (and only second time in the series), the Las Calaveras will be highlighted by a Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper.
Las Calaveras was first launched in 2014 and has been released annually. Las Calaveras pays homage to those who have passed away over the past year. The cigars are not meant to be mournful symbols but rather a celebration of the lives of those who have passed away, serving as a reminder of those who are no longer with us. Consistent with previous releases, the bands on each Las Calaveras cigar feature the initials of four deceased individuals.
“What’s unique about this year’s Las Calaveras release,” commented Crowned Heads President, Jon Huber, “is that not only are we utilizing a San Andres cover leaf, but it’s a color grade that most people would not immediately associate with San Andres (Mexico) wrapper. We selected a mid-priming wrapper, which resulted in a lighter Colorado color for the cigar, as opposed to the more commonly seen darker maduro shades typically associated with Mexican San Andres wrappers. This particular wrapper complements the blend and allows for the coffee, espresso, and toffee notes to come to the surface that can typically get lost under the pepper and earth profile that the darker, higher priming wrappers yield.”
In addition to the San Andres wrapper, Las Calaveras EL 2025 consists of Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The cigars will be released in four sizes: LC 52 (5 x 52), LC54 (6 x 54), LC56 (5 x 56), and Petit Lancero (6 1/2 x 40). The Petit Lancero will be available as part of a four-count sampler featuring one of each of the Las Calaveras EL 2023 sizes. The LC46, LC52, and LC54 will be available in 24-count boxes. Production is handled by My Father Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua, which has produced every release of Las Calaveras to date. Production has been allocated to 1,500 boxes per size and an additional 3,000 sampler boxes. Pricing ranges from $14.25 to $16.25 per cigar. The sampler is priced at $57.95.
The following are Las Calaveras’s releases. One significant note is that each year features a different blend and wrapper. Where appropriate, the primary band color is noted in parentheses.
