Assessment Updates will be posted on this web-site to: 1) Assess “pre-review” cigars that were not given a rating or score (typically pre-release cigars); 2) Provide numeric ratings to cigars previously assessed prior to the implementation of the numeric scoring system; 3) Provide a re-assessment and re-score of previously assessed/score cigars. Today, we provide a numerical score to the Casa Magna Domus Magnus. This was a cigar we assessed back in April, 2011.
My Father Limited Edition 2011 |
The My Father Limited Edition 2011 was the second limited edition cigar with under the “My Father” line. It was released in the spring of 2011 and it ended up finishing as our #26 Cigar of the Year for that year.
The original My Father Limited Edition 2010 was the first of the “Limited Edition”s under My Father to be released. That cigar was unique in that it was packaged in individual coffin boxes and the cigars were personally rolled by Don Pepin Garcia and his son Jaime. The My Father Limited Edition 2011 came in traditional packaging and from what we know was not rolled by Pepin or his son. The Limited Edition 2011 was limited to 5,000 boxes of 12.
The original My Father Limited Edition 2010 was a cigar that finished as our #18 Cigar for 2010. It was also a cigar that really improved over time – landing the #5 spot in our top aged blends for 2011. Like the Limited Edition 2010, we feel the 2011 has also aged very nicely since its release last year.
The Limited Edition 2011 features the trademark Hybrid Ecuadorian Habano Rosado/Criollo wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. Like the Limited Edition 2010, it also incorporates Pelo de Oro tobacco. Also like the 2010 edition, the Limited Edition 2011 is only available in the 6 1/2 x 52 “Super Toro”
The flavor profile of the My Father Limited Edition 2011 is a mix of coffee, caramel, cedar, tea, and pepper. There also seemed to be more of a mixed fruit component to the sweetness when we smoked it this year. The pepper and cedar also seemed to be better melded. The flavors are medium to full in bodied and balanced very nicely by the cigar’s medium to full strength. The burn, draw, and construction are all outstanding.

So do you think this cigar has improved dramatically since initial release?
William Cooper
It definitely did get better. Definitely a top five in terms of how aging impacted a cigar for a 2011 release
