La Sirena Cigars has acquired Old School Cigars. Information on this announcement was first made by Cigar Aficionado, and then in a follow-up press-release by La Sirena Cigars.
La Sirena Cigars is run by Arielle Ditkowich. The brand was founded in 2009 and was originally a part of the Miami Cigar and Company portfolio. Last year the company announced it was going independent.
Old School Cigars was founded seven years ago by Danny Ditkowich who happens to be Arielle’s father, and the Holman family. The father and daughter have worked several events nationwide over the past few months. When Arielle was a guest on our special Stogie Geeks episode, we asked the question on what it was like to have two cigar company owners in the family. She hinted that the two companies would possibly work together when she said, “this might be a really cool story where the daughter helps run the show. I really like his cigars, his cigars are great..we are looking at a way to work together for both of our interests.”
premium cigar brands featuring unique blends and a high level of cigar expertise,” said Arielle Ditkowich in a press release, “It just made sense to me, as we [La Sirena] continue to grow
quickly. I was looking to blend a mild cigar and, during my research, I came across the sweet Connecticut
wrapper on the Jaxx LT.”
“La Sirena continues to gain momentum since our independence in January. Arielle realized we needed to produce a mild, yet full flavored cigar to even out our portfolio. We liked the Jaxx LT so much, we made an offer to buy the company,” said Max Mogil, Vice President of National Sales & Marketing in a press release. “This is just the first of many exciting announcements for La Sirena. In addition to the Stixx, Jaxx and Jaxx LT, we’re looking forward to the 2014 IPCPR where we will debut our third line under the La Sirena brand.”
The Old School Cigars by La Sirena includes three lines: JAXX by La Sirena, STIXX by La Sirena, and JAXX LT by La Sirena. JAXX is made at the Tavicusa factory in Nicaragua, STIXX is made at the Quesada factory in the Dominican Republic, and JAXX LT is made at the Plasencia factory. The line has also produced cigars such Brooklyn, GR8, and Randello.
Effective immediately, La Sirena Cigars will handle distribution for the Old School Cigars line.
Once the current inventory is sold, the cigar bands of Old School Cigars will contain “by La Sirena”.
