Coming in at #27 is the WCD 127 Tatuaje Limited Edition. This was a limited edition shop exclusive by Tatuaje Cigars done for DC area tobacconist W. Curtis Draper for their 127th anniversary. The WCD 127 gives Tatuaje a spot on the Cigar of the Year Countdown for the 5th consecutive year. This is the second retail exclusive cigar on the 2014 Countdown, and marks the first time a W. Curtis Draper Shop Exclusive has made the countdown. Finally, this is the first entry for 2014 on the Countdown that features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
This wet-packed cigar is a massive 7 5/8 x 52 Double Corona and could have easily qualified as a Tatuaje Monster Series installment. This cigar delivers a mix of natural tobacco sweetness, earth, chocolate, raw sugar cane, and black pepper. The first third of this cigar is the sweetest and it almost reminded me of a salted caramel. The second third the sweetness shifts back more to a natural tobacco sweetness. There are plenty of earth and pepper notes to make this cigar enjoyable. This was not a power bomb in terms of strength. I assessed this as a medium strength cigar and the flavors were medium to full-bodied.
Overall I found this to be one of the better Double Coronas I’ve had in a long time. While it might be difficult to find, the experience spoke for itself – and is worthy of a Top 30 spot.
