According to a press release, Kafie 1901 Cigars were created to represent the history of the Kafie family in Honduras, which spans over 100 years. The cigars are created at Tabacalera Puros Aliados, the factory of the late Rolando Reyes Sr. located in Danli, Honduras.
In a press release, Dr. Gaby Kafie says, “We are extremely excited and proud of the completion of our Connecticut blend. Our company focuses on creating blends that will be in continuos production. We strongly believe that the secret to the great cigars is quality and consistency. I never release a cigar to connoisseurs that have not received my approval.”
This follows up the Don Fernando, which was a maduro released back on July 31, 2013. The Don Fernando is currently sold at select shops in the U.S.
Kafie Cigars is geared at the brick and mortars and puts a focus on building relationships with retail tobacconists and their staff. “We are a family owned business, and believe in supporting such entities.” says Dr. Kafie.
Dr. Kafie works with Enrique Diez (Tobacco Grower with over 30 years experience), and Carlos Diez (President of Tabacalera Puros Aliados) to build his blends. The company makes their blends by using the best practices put in place and handed down by Reyes Sr.
A third blend in the Kafie 1901 line, featuring an Ecuadorian Sumatra is planned for later in 2015.
