Today marks the final installment of the Summer of ’22 series. In our concluding instalment, we take a look at Meerapfel Cigar.
It was a about a year ago that Jeremiah Meerapfel announced his Meerapfel Cigar brands. It’s not only a project that pays tribute to each generation in his family’s rich tobacco history, but its also a brand that incorporates what he calls UberLuxury. While luxury cigars are nothing new, it’s very clear that Meerapfel is looking to take things to the next level in term of tobaccos and packaging for his product.
The Meerapfel family is best known for being tobacco brokers and in particular are known for brokering tobacco out of Cameroon, Africa. In addition, the Meerapfels work with Arturo Fuente Cigar Company on its international distribution outside of the U.S. While the Meerapfels have over 150 years of experience in the tobacco business, way back in the mid-1800s, the Meerapfels had their own cigar brand being distributed.
These releases are being released under a collection known as the Meerapfel Master Blend. There are four releases planned. Each is named for a member of the Meerapfel family from a different generation:
- Richard
- Heller
- Ernest
- Meir
The details of the tobaccos and where the cigars are being made have not been disclosed. At press time, there have been formal announcements of two of the Master Blends: Richard and Meir. Richard was the father of Jeremiah Meerapfel who opened up the Cameroon market. Meir was Jeremiah’s great-grandfather who is credited with opening up the Meerapfel family’s first cigar factory.
The Richard is available in five sizes: Double Robusto (5 3/4 x 52), Corona Gorda (5 1⁄2 x 46), Lancero (7 1⁄2 x 40), Robusto (4 7⁄8 x 50), Lonsdale (6 3⁄4 x 43), Churchill (7 x 47) & Pyramide (6 1⁄8 x 52). The Double Robusto is packaged in a ten-count ornamented casket. The packaging includes a tray that can also be used as an ashtray. The other sizes are in 25-count chests with an annual production limited to 613 chests per size.
There have been five sizes announced for the Meir Master Blend. Like the Richard, there is a Double Robusto (5 3/4 x 52) that will be available in the ornamented casket. In addition there will be 25-count wooden chests available in the following sizes: Robusto (4 7⁄8 x 50), Churchill (7 x 47) and Pyramide (6 1⁄8 x 52). Each size will be limited to 613 chests (boxes) per year. Pricing ranges from 46,00 EUR to 94,00 EUR.
