Casa de Ortez, the company launched by Indiana Ortez, has announced La Malinche. It’s a cigar the company says uses the first-ever sun-grown wrapper cultivated in the Condega Valley that the company is calling Capa de Ortez. The Ortez family has been growing and curing tobacco in the Condega line for over 50 years and this is something they consider to be groundbreaking.

The Capa de Ortez project is the end product of six years of fermentation by the Ortez family. Casa de Ortez says the Capa de Ortez Wrapper is currently exclusive for the La Malinche project.

As for the La Malinche line, this pays homage to Nicaraguan women who have made contributions to the tobacco industry. Three different blends use the Capa de Ortez wrapper. Each blend pays homage to one of the three women.

La Malinche Victoria

La Malinche Victoria pays homage to the mother of Omar Ortez. Casa de Ortez describes Victoria as:

A living symbol of resilience for the oldest Nicaraguan family in our country’s tobacco industry, the humble beginnings of this story known as La Malinche. Victoria, with her deep-rooted humility and gratitude, devoted her life tirelessly to the care and development of tobacco seeds. With each sprout that emerged from the earth, Victoria saw the potential for a bright future, and she gardened this story one seed at a time.
