The Details

The  #29 2023 Cigar of the Year is the Joya de Nicaragua Dos Cientos. In 2021, the 200th anniversary of Central American independence from the Spanish Empire was celebrated. This would set the stage for creating several Central American nations, including Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. That same year, Joya de Nicaragua marked the occasion with Dos Cientos. This cigar was released in 2021, but I smoked it earlier this year. With some age, the cigar had a remarkable performance, landing it on the Countdown.

The Joya de Nicaragua Dos Cientos contains tobaccos from several Latin American countries, including Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. This includes a Habano wrapper from Ecuador, a binder leaf from Mexico, and fillers from Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. The cigar comes in one size – a 6 x 54 Gran Toro. The cigars were packaged in 21-count boxes. There were only 3,000 numbered boxes released. Production was handled at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Joya de Nicaragua Dos Cientos

Dos Cientos will deliver a flavor profile with notes of natural tobacco, earth, chocolate, cedar, baker’s spice, citrus, and pepper. The flavors were medium-bodied, countered by medium strength. As mentioned, there was a single release, so these aged quite nicely.

This is the sixth time Joya de Nicaragua has placed at least one cigar on the Countdown. It is also the third time we’ve seen Joya on the Countdown in four years.
