While Oveja Negra Brands would highlight several new releases at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, a lot more was showcased at this booth. All of the brands at the booth are distributed by Oveja Negra Brands and produced at Fabrica Oveja Negra. This includes the brands co-owned by James Brown (Black Label Trading Co, Black Work Studio), Emilio). It also includes Dissident, the brand owned by Cynn and Joshua Coburn. The work being done is high quality, and it’s no wonder Oveja Negra Brands has racked up many Cigar Coop Coalition awards over the years. This year we caught up with James Brown to discuss the Paper Crane and Orthodox releases. Both of these releases capture the essence of the Black Works Studio and Black Label Trading Company brands perfectly.
The Black Works Studio Paper Crane was a cigar that the Coalition team was very excited to try. Paper Crane marks the first time Brown is releasing a cigar with a Connecticut Florado wrapper. Paper Crane showcases the innovation the Black Works Studio brand is known for. The remainder of the blend consists of an Ecuadorian Habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua. Presented in 20-count boxes, there are two box-pressed sizes: Corona Gorda ($11.00 SRP) and Toro ($12.00 SRP). This cigar has shipped to retailers.
The Orthodox goes back to the roots of Black Label Trading Company – namely strong, bold, and spicy. Orthodox features a Mexican San Andres wrapper over an Ecuadorian Habano binder and all Nicaraguan fillers. Presented in 20-count boxes, Orthodox comes in three sizes: Toro, Corona Gorda, and Short Robusto. Orthodox comes in at a price point between $12.50 and $13.00 SRP. It has already shipped to retailers.
As for Dissident Cigars, we covered them in a separate PCA 2024 Report.
