The Details

The #23 Cigar of the Year for 2024 is the Padrón Family Reserve No. 96 Maduro. At the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Padrón Cigars showcased what would be the seventh installment of its Family Reserve line, the Padrón Family Reserve No. 96. Like most Padrón Cigars, the Family Reserve No. 96 was offered in Natural and Maduro blends. The “96” is significant because it commemorates what would have been the 96th birthday of the late José Orlando Padrón. The Family Reserve No. 96 was offered exclusively to those retailers that attended the 2022 PCA Trade Show. This past spring, both Padrón Family Reserve No. 96 blends made their way to retailers.

The Padrón Family Reserve features some of Padrón’s oldest and most exceptional tobaccos. Both the Natural and Maduro options feature 100% Nicaraguan tobacco. The No. 96 measures 5 ¾ x 52. One thing to note is the first five installments of the Family Reserve Series were all box-pressed. The No. 96 and the previous installment, the No. 95, are parejo offerings. As with all Padrón cigars, production comes from its Tabacos Cubanica facility in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The Padrón Family Reserve No 96 Maduro delivers notes of mocha (Coffee/Chocolate), earth, cedar, bing cherry, and pepper. Its profile features medium-bodied flavors countered by medium strength.

This is the third time Padrón Cigars has landed at least one cigar on the Countdown. Padrón captured Cigar Coop’s #1 Cigar of the Year in 2015 with the Padron 50th Anniversary Maduro. If you are keeping score at home, Nicaragua has landed five cigars on the 2024 Countdown up until this point.
