The Details

The #26 Cigar of the Year for 2024 Aladino Sumatra from JRE Tobacco Co. JRE is the company owned by Julio Eiroa and his son Justo. Since its inception, JRE has been synonymous with authentic Corojo. Julio Eiroa is largely credited with bringing authentic Corojo back to the market utilizing agricultural innovations. Those innovations have not stopped, and more recently, through its farm, the company has been at the forefront of several other innovation projects. Four years ago, the company released a cigar utilizing a Honduran-grown Cameroon seed wrapper. In 2023, JRE struck again – this time delivering a Honduran-grown Sumatra seed wrapper. It would be this leaf that would be used on the Aladino Sumatra.

In addition to the Honduran-grown Sumatra wrapper, the remainder of the blend features 100% Honduran-grown tobaccos from the JRE Tobacco Farm in the Jamastran Valley of Honduras. Production comes from JRE’s Fabrica de Puros Aladino S.A., located in the Jamastran Valley of Honduras. Aladino Sumatra has only been released in one size, a 6 x 52 Toro.

Aladino Sumatra delivered somewhat of a complex flavor profile featuring notes of cocoa, earth, nut, lemon peel, cedar, wood, and pepper. The strength and body of this cigar started out mild to medium, but quickly progressed to medium in the first third.

JRE Tobacco Company launched in 2016. This is the seventh countdown during this period that JRE has placed at least one cigar on it. Meanwhile, since the Aladino Sumatra originates from Honduras, it’s the first non-Nicaraguan to land on this year’s Countdown.
