The Details
The 2024 Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year is the Perdomo 30th Anniversary Maduro Epicure.
Perdomo Cigars is not known for frequently releasing all-new lines. As a result, there is a heightened level of excitement when a new Perdomo release occurs. There was understandably a lot of buzz when the company did have a big new release in 2023. Additionally, it was a special one as it commemorated a significant milestone: 30 years in business for Nick Perdomo and his family.
Three cigar blends comprise the Perdomo 30th Anniversary line: Connecticut, Sun-Grown, and Maduro – and all three landed on this year’s Countdown. Incidentally, Perdomo technically celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022 and had the cigars made. There was one problem: the packaging wasn’t prepared. Wanting this release to be worthy of the occasion, Perdomo Cigars opted to delay the release for a year. They say all good things come to those who wait – and with the Perdomo 30th Anniversary line, and especially the Maduro, this was the case.
Finally, Perdomo’s 30th Anniversary line had a grand reveal at the 2023 PCA Trade Show, where the world saw it for the first time. In fact, Perdomo’s Arthur Kemper and Nicholas Perdomo III kept the packaging under wraps from CEO Nick Perdomo until the night before the Trade Show.
Produced at Tabacalera Perdomo in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Perdomo 30th Anniversary Maduro features 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos grown on the Perdomo family farms in Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa. The cigar is highlighted by a 15-year-old Cuban-seed wrapper aged in bourbon barrels. The Epicure is a thicker 6 x 54 Toro, a staple in the Perdomo portfolio.
To earn Cigar of the Year, you must perform; the most important category is flavor. The Perdomo 30th Anniversary Maduro Epicure excels in the flavor category. The flavors delivered are espresso, cocoa, wood, cedar, earth, and pepper. The flavors offered were rich and decadent. This cigar was medium in strength and medium in body. This cigar comes in at a price of $12.50, and in today’s market, that is an excellent price for a cigar of this caliber.
In terms of the 2024 Cigar of the Year race for #1, the Perdomo 30th Anniversary Maduro Epicure was a clear and decisive winner. As for the company, Perdomo Cigars has landed on the 2024 Countdown three times, with all three 30th Anniversary blends. As of 2024, this is the fourth Countdown where Perdomo has featured at least one cigar. Additionally, Nicaragua secured 16 of the 30 spots on the 2024 Countdown for those keeping track.
