#13 Viaje Satori 2011 |
This next epic encounter brings us to a follow-up to a cigar that came very close to winning the 2010 Cigar of the Year. It also marks the second entry in the 2011 Cigar of the Year countdown for Viaje Cigars.
Coming in at #13 is the Viaje Satori 2011. This marks a blend change from the original Viaje Satori (2010). The original Viaje Satori finished as my #3 cigar for 2010. The Satori was originally advertised as a limited edition cigar, but it turns out that this is intended to be an annual limited release. Visually inspecting the Viaje Satori 2011, one can tell this is a different cigar. The dark, oily, double oscuro wrapper of the original Viaje Satori has been replaced by a lighter, more-traditional maduro wrapper – thus making the Viaje Satori 2011 a new blend. Since this is a new blend, it is eligible for this year’s Cigar of the Year countdown.
The Viaje Satori 2011 had some tough shoes to fill from the original Viaje Satori, but one thing remains – the Satori is still the flagship blend of Viaje Cigars. The new wrapper hails from San Andres Mexico. The cigar itself provides some very unique flavors of blackberry sweetness, citrus sweetness, cedar spice, and coffee. The flavors are medium to full-bodied and balance nicely against the medium strength this cigar delivers.
