This year’s Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show was exciting, especially at the De Los Reyes booth. While there is a new blend for the long-time Saga No 7 line, the focus was on their Don Julio brand, which was stealing the spotlight at PCA 2024. The Don Julio line is a tribute to the legendary grower, Don Julio Samuel Reyes Fermin, a third-generation Reyes family member. The two Don Julio releases are the first major releases under Don Julio in over a decade.
First up is the Don Julio Sang Bleu (which translates to “Blue Blood). Produced at the De Los Reyes factory in the Dominican Republic, the blend of Sang Bleu is 100% Dominican tobacco and features a Dominican Habano wrapper. Sang Bleu is available in 24-count boxes in four different vitolas (Robusto, Gordo, Salomon, and a figurado called P 2).
The second new release, the Don Julio Year of the Dragon, pays homage to the Chinese New Year. We first saw this cigar at ProCigar 2024, where a special humidor containing it was auctioned off. The Don Julio Year of the Dragon includes a dark Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over an undisclosed secret blend of aged Dominican Tobaccos. The cigar comes in one size – 52 x 6 Toro presented in 24-count boxes.
As mentioned, one of the original Saga core lines, Saga Blend No 7, is receiving a new blend. The new blend features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over Dominican tobacco. Initially, the blend featured a Brazilian Cubra wrapper. According to De Los Reyes Cigars, the difficulty in obtaining Brazilian Cubra necessitated a blend change. The cigar will still be available in the same formats: Robusto, Perfecto, and Toro Gordo.
