Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) has announced it has discontinued four premium cigar lines from national distribution from General Cigar Company and Forged Cigar Company portfolios. The four lines include CAO Maduro, CAO Nicaragua, Macanudo Vintage 2006, and Diesel Disciple. News of the discontinued lines was communicated to retailers via email from STG.
CAO Maduro is one of the oldest lines in the STG premium cigar portfolio. Created when the Ozgener family owned CAO, this line goes back to 1998 when it was released as the L’Anniversaire Maduro. After the brand was acquired from STG, it remained a part of the General Cigar portfolio and underwent a packaging change.
CAO Nicaragua was a line introduced by STG. Blended by Rick Rodriguez, the line made its debut at the 2018 IPCPR Trade Show. While it contained Nicaragua tobacco, it had a good portion of Honduran tobacco. It was also produced at STG Estelí in Nicaragua.
Macanudo Vintage 2006 made its debut in 2012. It was a follow-up to the Macanudo Vintage 1997 Maduro. The Vintage 2006 featured a Connecticut Shade wrapper. Like the Macanudo 1997, the Vintage 2006 featured metal cigar bands. The Macanudo brand is also part of the General Cigar portfolio.
Finally, the Diesel Disciple was discontinued from the Forged Cigar Company portfolio. Diesel Disciple first made its debut in 2021 as a part of the 2021 Tobacconists Association of America (TAA) Exclusive Series in a 7 x 38 lancero format. The lancero returned in 2023 and a torpedo and toro size was added.
Scandinavian Tobacco Group did not provide any specifics on why the cigars were discontinued.
