MoyaRuiz has announced it’s 2015 limited edition, The Chinese Finger Trap. This will be the company’s second limited edition cigar following 2014’s La Jugada Nunchuck. The cigar will be available in one size, a 6 x 50 Toro with production is limited to 1,000 boxes of ten. The cigar has a targeted release at the end of June 2015.
In a press release. Danny Moya, co-founder of MoyaRuiz Cigars explained the concept behind the Chinese Finger Trap: “We had such a blast making last year’s limited edition release, the Nunchuck, so we knew that this year we had to once again think outside the box. Although this release also has an oriental theme, its packaging is inspired mainly by vintage novelty/game boards the Chinese finger traps came in.”
As for the blend, the company is keeping tight lipped. “The blend is an ancient Chinese secret. Thus, no further information about the blend will ever be released.” says Moya.
Consistent with the rest of MoyaRuiz’s portfolio, The Chinese Finger Trap is being produced at Erik Espinosa’s factory La Zona in Esteli, Nicaragua.
At this time, retail pricing for the cigars has not been finalized.

This is AWFUL BRANDING AND PACKAGING – extremely irresponsible and I would strongly encourage retailers to NOT sell it and for consumers to NOT buy it.
My issue is a simple one: Given the current climate, no one in our industry should be creating or selling any cigar packaged in any way that could be construed as associated with children, toys, candy, etc. I can already see an anti-zealot holding this box aloft as a prime example of why we need to be regulated. Fair, unfair, whatever, it does not matter – the reality is the reality.
There are some legacy products in the marketplace that could be construed incorrectly, but they were created in the past before the current situation is at hand and none of them were nearly as blatant as this. Anyone that today makes such a product new or sells such a new product is doing a serious disservice to our industry – period! And I am hopeful that Danny Moya will reconsider and change the branding and packaging of this product.
It is very important for everyone to be cognizant of the current regulatory issues at hand and be responsible to not add fuel to the fire just for the sake of a few dollars in sales.

ps: Also, they would have to pull it regardless, no way will the MB attorneys not go after them for the IP-related issues – just simply a very bad idea all the way around.
pps: Coop – this is your website, you do a great job, and I realize you are just reporting an upcoming new release, but I would also encourage you to reconsider the potential implications of giving a product like this any media coverage.

@Steve Saka, I agree 100% with you, this is not going to fare well for the cigar industry, and it is a ridiculous idea.
