There will be a major change for the 2022 edition of the Airport Photography Contest.

Over the past two years, while I believe this contest has been fun, it didn’t go quite the way I hoped it would. The idea was to encourage originality and creativity. Instead, only a small amount of participants submitted original and creative work. Most of the pictures were boring and mundane. While the idea was to also encourage a body of work throughout the year, the observing audience seemed to recognize quantity over quality. I also felt this contest could frankly be used for a better good.

Something wasn’t working in the quest for a plaque and a $50 VISA Gift card. So in 2022, there will be NO PLAQUE and NO $50 VISA GIFT CARD PRIZES IN 2022.

INSTEAD, for each properly submitted and tagged airport photo, I will donate $1.00 to the Sepsis Alliance, with a maximum of $365.00 per year. Now the focus will be on quantity over quality with a charitable component. I’ll encourage but won’t require matching donations from anyone. Essentially there is no more “contest”, but we are now doing a fundraiser.

Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. Sepsis kills 270,000 Americans each year. The Sepsis Alliance team is working to produce more information and educational material to help the general public become aware of this often deadly condition and for professionals who can then help the public learn about sepsis when it does strike.

There still will be challenge coins, but you will have to work your butts off in the creativity department to get one of those.

The 2021 plaque and Gift Card awards will be announced later this month.

The Rules for 2022 are below:
