PCA 2022 Report: Freud Cigar Company

Freud Cigar Company is one of several new companies that made its debut at the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. Freud Cigars is a partnership between Luis Torres and David Stadnyk. Torres is best known for his time as CEO of Casa de Montecristo and his time with Davidoff of Geneva retail stores. Stadnyk comes into the company with 30 years of experience as a financier and philanthropist. Torres’ Davidoff connections are key as he has partnered with two former Davidoff blenders to produce his company’s cigars – Eladio Diaz and Wiber Ventura. The company came into the Trade Show with its first regular production cigar and its first limited edition.

Freud Cigars pays homage to the legendary, Dr. Sigmund Freud who is considered the father of psychoanalysis, but also a famous cigar enthusiast. The first regular production cigar is the Superego. The SuperEgo is one of the key elements in Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis. Freud said the Superego strives for perfection and that is the goal of Freud Cigar Company’s debut cigar. It’s a blend consisting of an Ecuadorian Corojo seed wrapper, Sumatra binder, and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The cigars are available in four sizes (Robusto Extra, Toro, Gordo, and Lonsdale) – each presented in ten-count boxes. The blend was developed by Wiber Ventura. These cigars have already shipped to retailers. Pricing ranges from $17.00 to $19.00 SRP.

The limited edition is called Agape, which is also the name of Freud’s parent company (Agape Lifestyle Inc.). Agape is Greek for the highest form of love, and is described as a “love letter to the craft” (of cigar making) This is a cigar that is a 100% Dominican puro that was blended by Eladio Diaz at his new Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera. The cigar comes in one size – a 5 x 54 “Robusto X.” It features seven different tobaccos, including five different filler tobaccos. The final packaging was not on display at the Trade Show, although the company has shown a sneak peak. This will be an ultra-premium offering with pricing set at $30.00 SRP

While we did not get a chance to interview Freud Cigar Co at the 2022 PCA Trade Show, we were very fortunate to interview Luis Torres and Wiber Ventura just prior to the Trade Show on Prime Time Special Edition 123.
