Davidoff has announced the latest installment in its Chinese Zodiac series, the Davidoff Year of the Dragon Limited Edition 2024. Like last year’s Davidoff Year of the Rabbit, there will be two releases, a Double Corona for Davidoff Appointed Merchants and a Gran Toro that will be exclusive to Davidoff’s Flagship stores. A special pipe tobacco blend, cutter, ashtray, and a Davidoff Masterpiece Humidor will also be released.

It’s actually the first full release of the Davidoff Year of the Dragon. The Davidoff Chinese Zodiac series launched in 2012 with a small “Year of the Dragon” release for the Asian market. In 2013, the series became a more global offering with the release of the Year of the Snake.

The Davidoff Year of the Dragon consists of eight different tobaccos, including an Ecuadorian wrapper, Dominican binder, and fillers originating from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Davidoff says the tobaccos have a total of 60 years of age, which matches someone born in 1964 and celebrating their 60th birthday in 2024. 1964 also happened to be the Year of the Dragon.

The Year of the Dragon Double Corona will be available to Appointed Merchants. It is a 7 1/2 x 50 vitola. It will be presented in ten-count boxes and is priced at $590.00 per box. This cigar also features a one-inch uncut footer (without a wrapper). The ten-count boxes have a wooden tray inside the box that reveals two cigar sections that are divided by a red ribbon inspired by the Dragon’s tongue.

The Year of the Dragon Gran Toro will be exclusive to Davidoff Flagship Stores. It measures 6 x 56 and also features an uncut footer. The Gran Toro is presented in 24-count boxes. Each box carries a price tag of $2136.00 per box. A total of 600 boxes are being allocated worldwide.

In a press release, Edward Simon, CMO at Oettinger Davidoff, stated, “We reflected the importance of the Dragon with our largest zodiac cigar thus far: an impressive double corona with an uncut foot. Furthermore, our very limited gran toro cigar, an intriguing pipe tobacco blend, and state-of-the-art accessories and packaging design make this collection one of the most exciting of the entire cycle. I am immensely proud that our series has proven to be so successful and that we can fill our aficionados’ time beautifully with our products.”

Davidoff is also releasing a Year of the Dragon Ashtray. This comes in a round shape with two slightly angled notches and offers a generous space for two cigars and ash. The 588 numbered pieces are crafted from premium porcelain in France. Pricing is set at $ 490.00 per unit.

In addition, a Davidoff Year of the Dragon Cutter has been produced. This gold-plated cutter made in Germany can cut up to a 56-ring gauge. Each unit has a serial number engraved on the palladium of each of the 588 available pieces. Pricing is set at $588.00 per unit.

The Davidoff Year of the Dragon Pipe Tobacco features a blend of tobaccos from Brazil, Zimbabwe, India, Malawi, China, and Cyprus. It comes in a numbered, red-lacquered tin and is limited to 5,400 tins worldwide.

Finally, there is the Davidoff Masterpiece Humidor, which Davidoff says is the most exclusive product that is  part of the Year of the Dragon collection. The units are handmade in France and show eye-catching artwork resulting from a collaboration between two renowned artists: Chinese oil painter Zhang Zhaoying and the mosaicist Sika Viagbo. The exterior is smoked oak and the interior is walnut. Each humidor is numbered and comes with 88 Gran Toro cigars. Only 25 units have been produced. Each unit carries a price tag of $49,000.00.

Davidoff plans to launch the War of the Dragon Collection in November 2023.
