The Details

Coming in at #3 on the 2024 Cigar of the Year Countdown is the Casa Magna Colorado Lancero LE by Quesada Cigars.

The story of the Casa Magna Colorado is well known. It started as a collaboration between two legendary names in the world of cigar making – Manuel Quesada and Nestor Plasencia. Since then, the Casa Magna Colorado has garnered many accolades. Today, Casa Magna Colorado is produced by Quesada’s TABADEX factory in the Dominican Republic. Late in 2023, the company announced a limited run of the 7 x 40 Lancero LE. It is worth noting that several years earlier, it had released another lancero size under Casa Magna Colorado. That previous iteration measured 8 1/4 x 40.

The Casa Magna Colorado is a Nicaraguan puro highlighted by its Jalapa-grown Nicaraguan Shade-grown wrapper. Quesada decided to package the Lancero LE comes in seven-count boxes. Production of this cigar was limited to 1000 boxes were produced in total.

The Casa Magna Colorado Lancero LE opens with notes of cedar, tea, coffee, natural tobacco, almond, anise, and black pepper. True to many of this blend’s vitolas, this cigar delivered plenty of complexity. The flavors started medium in the first half and progressed to medium to full in the second half, countered by medium strength. Casa Magna Colorado is a legendary blend in my book, and the lancero format delivers here.

Quesada Cigars has a strong track record on the Countdown. For instance, the Casa Magna Colorado Lancero marks the company’s 10th appearance on the Cigar Coop Countdown. Meanwhile, Quesada brought the Dominican Republic its eighth cigar on the 2024 Countdown.
