Feature of the Week: Motion to Intervene in Cigar Industry Lawsuit by Health Organizations Denied
A federal judge denied a motion for intervention by a group of health organizations to intervene in the cigar industry’s lawsuit filed against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The ruling was handed down by Judge Amit Mehta in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. We have the details here.

- House of Representatives: H.R. 564 is a proposed piece of legislation that calls for an exemption from FDA Regulation for premium handmade cigars. This week no new sponsors were added. The total number of sponsors is now 128.
- U.S. Senate: S.294 is the Senate companion bill to H.R. 564.This week no new co-sponsors were added. The total number of sponsors is now 18.
- House Bill 1136: H.R. 1136 is the legislation to change the Grandfather Date for Deeming Tobacco products subject to FDA Regulation from February 15, 2017, to 21 days after enactment of the regulations. This week no new co-sponsors were added. The total number of sponsors is now 88.
- FDA: The FDA has extended select compliance deadlines for areas impacted by recent hurricanes and fires.
