96 Billion Dollar Tobacco Tax Increase Passes Ways & Means Committee
The proposed 96 billion dollar tobacco tax increase as a part of the Build Back Better Act was passed by the House Ways & Means Committee as introduced. We’ve got the details here.
Ministry of Cigars Forced to Shut Down
Ministry of Cigars, a cigar website dedicated to covering the international cigar market, is being forced to shut down. Ferdinand Piet, owner of Ministry of Cigars, made the announcement earlier today. Piet is based in Singapore and the laws around tobacco legislation are quite strict, and they basically prevent a cigar blog or any media entity from operating there. We’ve got the details here.

Legislative News
- House of Representatives: HR 3982 is a proposed piece of legislation that calls for an exemption from FDA Regulation for premium handmade cigars. This week John Katko [R-NY] and Dina Titus [D-NV] signed on as a co-sponsors.The total number of sponsors is now at 36.
- U.S. Senate: S.438 is a proposed piece of legislation that calls for an exemption from FDA Regulation for premium handmade cigars. This week no new co-sponsors were added. The total number of sponsors remains at nine.
