In previous years, the “Big Board” has served as a guide to what releases companies have planned for the IPCPR/PCA Trade Show. It was meant to be a written walk of the trade show floor to find out what the companies would be showcasing.
This year, we have taken the “Big Board” live for our coverage of “Summer of ’20.” We have listed 128 companies that are frequently covered by Cigar Coop or a major publication. For we have tracked percentages of what companies have made some sort of product announcement and/or releases. This post marks the conclusion of this tracking for the 2020 Summer of ’20 season – which we started from 6/18/20 and ran for approximately a three month period until 9/17/20.
Prime Time Virtual Trade Show
Concurrent with our coverage of the cigar releases for the Summer of 2020, Prime Time Episode 148 featured a virtual trade show. On this event, we featured representatives from many of the leading cigar brands and companies out there who covered products being released this summer. Data Analysis (“Insider Baseball”)
At the end of this ongoing study, we concluded that 46.88% of companies did not make product announcements and/or releases during the summer season. This is almost double from 2019 where only 23.58% of the companies did not make product announcements. The 23.58% number was reached at the 2019 IPCPR Trade Show which ended July 2nd. We extended the 2020 “summer” season until 9/18 and still found it to be close.
The reasons for the rise are pretty consistent to previous observations. Most of this is due to the facet that there was no 2020 PCA (IPCPR) Trade Show. Many companies did not feel a need to rush new products that they were not going to have an opportunity to showcase. It’s a conclusion that the data backs up.
